Shaping the envelopes in Saurus
« on: May 24, 2012, 11:33:08 AM »
You can use the Mod Matrix source X*X and Sqrt(X) to shape the envelopes. X*X makes them more punchy and Sqrt(X) more linear.

Here is an example how the filter envelope gets shaped for more punch:

1) In the filter section set ENV to 0
2) Select Filter Env as source in Matrix slot 1
3) Select X:=Value as target in Matrix slot 1
4) Set Matrix send in slot 1 to 100
5) Select X*X as source in Matrix slot 2
6) Select Cutoff as target in Matrix slot 2
7) Set Matrx send in slot 2 to 100

I know this is an old topic, but wanted to mention it would be nice to have more examples like these for Saurus.
I know a decent amount about making presets, but some of the matrix options are little confusing. I wrote to Bastiaan about it.

Some of the descriptions in the manual don’t say exactly what they really do. One of them was "Key". I looked for a few presets that use it, so I could see/hear what it does, but couldn't figure out exactly what it's doing to the sound.

Will reply to your email later, currently busy :)

"Key" is keytrack/follow: For example if you use Key > value < Cutoff in the modmatrix, the amount of cutoff applied changes as you move up and down the keyboard.

Thanks Bastiaan

I should have thought of that, seems obvious now, oh well.  :D
If it said "KeyTrack" I would have figured it out right away.
