This trick in Icarus3 does also help to find the right number quickly: When you hover with the mouse over an matrix entry a popup tooltip appears. Here you can see the number of the matrix slot.
If you disabled tooltips: Go to setup and click on 'Tooltips enabled/disabled' on the right bottom box.

I am not a big fan of the tool tips because they get in the way and they do not disappear when using the mousewheel on parameters, hiding the number.  I use shift+mousewheel to make a lot of my adjustments and when needing to make equal adjustments to multiple parameters, like osc volume, it annoys me so I keep it turned off.
