AkustiX Enhancer / AkustiX on MacOS Sequoia
Last post by Markus Krause - July 08, 2025, 12:08:35 PM
Apple has dropped the downward compatibility for older installers. As a result, AkustiX is not longer compatible with MacOS Sequoia.
It is not possible to add compatibility for it with reasonable effort.

However one of our customers was able to make it work:
"There is a workaround for you though, if you extract the VST and Audiounit files with software like Pacifist and copy them to your plugins folder "HD / Library / Audio / Plug-Ins..." (To the VST and Components folder) Then it will work on Mac if you run Akustix through Rosetta."

Last post by Markus Krause - July 03, 2025, 07:51:17 PM
What's new in BiFilter 2.5?

Enhancements:

- Setup detects the correct VST plugin directory automatically.
- Linear instead of circular knob movement.
- Faster loading.
- Frequency resonse display is also animated when plugin does not process audio.
- canParameterBeAutomated is supported now.
- BiFilter2.dat is not longer placed to the plugins directory.
- Several minor fixes and enhancements.

Changes:

- It is not longer necessary to enter a serial number.
- The Icarus 3 demo can optionally be installed with the setup. We hope that more people give it a try!

Fixes:

- A warning message does not longer show on installing to an existing Vstplugin directory.
- Fixed a possible crash (audioMasterBeginEdit).

What is BiFilter?

BiFilter is a stereo multi-mode filter with a selection of 47 different sounding filter types. These filters are known from our famous Gladiator synthesizer. You can combine all filters with 8 additional distortion types, FM, AM, wave-shaping and lo-fi effects to create new sounds. A high precision display shows the frequency response of the filter in real-time. Since you can always see and hear what's happening, BiFilter is very user-friendly.

Features:

- 47 unique filter types
- 8 distortion types
- FM, AM, wave-shaping, bit-crushing, re-sampling, comb-filtering, vocal-filtering, equalizing, reverbaration
- All filters can be combined with different effects to create new sounds
- High precision frequency-response-display in real-time
- Parameter smoothing and click-free knob movements
- High-end quality filter algorithms, anti-aliasing, oversampling
- True stereo architecture, works with all known sampling rates
- Easy to use interface
- 100 presets
- Midi and automation support
- Very low CPU

Distortion types:

- Volume ? Drive controls the volume of the signal
- Tube Amp ? A soft-knee distortion
- Transistor ? An asymmetric distortion
- Presence ? A saturated distortion with falloff at higher levels
- Hard Clip ? A hard-knee  distortion
- Bitcrush ? Reduces the bit rate of the audio to ?lo-fi?
- Waveshape ? This distortion type adds additional harmonics
-  Pow2 ? Adds harmonics. It is similar to exciters

System requirements:

PC: Windows 7 / 8 / 10 / 11
Plugin format: 64-bit VST
It's not possible to port BiFilter to Mac (Intel 64bit / M1) or VST3 with reasonable effort. So please don't us ask for it. ;-)

Quick Saving recently created patches is currently not supported. I can add this in Icarus 3.2. Icarus 3.2 will be free for all Icarus3 owners.

Icarus / Quick Saving recently created ...
Last post by MarcH - June 30, 2025, 07:48:28 PM
I'm making some patches for Icarus 3.1 today and noticed the following issue. The Quick Save option returns the following message:

"Your patch still has no name. Use save patch as....to store it".

Steps to reproduce:

Init a Patch
Give it a name and save it. (Save Patch As)
Select "Quick Save Patch"
The "Your patch still has no name" dialog box pops up.

There is an image of the dialog box in the Icarus 3.1 thread at KVR Audio. I'm on Win 11 and the issue has also been confirmed by one other user on Mac OS 15.5

Let me know if you need any further information.  :)

I am not a big fan of the tool tips because they get in the way and they do not disappear when using the mousewheel on parameters, hiding the number.  I use shift+mousewheel to make a lot of my adjustments and when needing to make equal adjustments to multiple parameters, like osc volume, it annoys me so I keep it turned off.

Hello Burkuagh,

Thank you for your feedback!

This trick in Icarus3 does also help to find the right number quickly: When you hover with the mouse over an matrix entry a popup tooltip appears. Here you can see the number of the matrix slot.
If you disabled tooltips: Go to setup and click on 'Tooltips enabled/disabled' on the right bottom box.

Best Regards,
Markus

Small feature request.  In the mod matrix view number the matrix slots so I can more easily modulate matrix sends.  I don't like having to stop and count matrix slots to make sure I am modulating the correct one.  I would love this for all your synths.
