Title: Icarus 2 - Detune in glitch sequencer
Post by: Deepbass on December 07, 2019, 09:35:31 AM
Hi,

just a quick question regarding the Detune in the glitch sequencer. Why does it only have those few descrete steps (-7, -12, -19 and -24)? And why not also going up with the pitch? I think it would be nice to have more intervals or even semitone steps.

By the way, congratulations on the great update!

Cheers,
Andreas

Hello Andreas,

it would be uncomfortable for the user to have a massive number of discrete steps. Especially for those with a small screen resolution or a touchpad.

If you pitch a sample down it will get longer. A delay will appear compared to the original and you can just cut away a part of it.
If you pitch a sample up it will get shorter. But you can't look into the future. A negative delay is physically impossible. That's why it is not possible to pitch a sample up in real-time without creating ugly pitch-shifting artefacts and introducing lag.

Hello Markus,

thanks for your detailed explanation.
I wouldn´t mind to have a grainy (time stretching) effect when pitching up, it would suit a glitch sequencer quite well  :)
