Title: Protools compatibility
Post by: Markus Krause on March 30, 2015, 12:11:10 PM
Some interesting info from Ingo:

I just tested the demo version of Blue Cat Audio's PatchWork v1.7 which works as Standalone or as a plugin.
With the available 64-bit AAX plugin of PatchWork i was able to load and play Saurus 2 inside Pro Tools 11.3.1.

Here is a screenshot:

Seems to work with a MIDI keyboard, recorded MIDI and notes created in the piano roll.

Hi,

this is maybe not totally new but in the past when i checked some demos of plugin chainers for loading VSTs in Pro Tools they did not really seem to work properly, especially with Tone2 plugins.

The AAX version of the latest Blue Cat Patchwork v1.7 so far seems to work nicely with Saurus 2 and also Electra 2.1 (both are new updates).

WIth Nemesis and Rayblaster it does not seem to work properly yet. In that case a kind of  "generic" GUI seems to appear and the plugins mostly crash. With Gladiator 2 Pro Tools seems to crash immediately.

So while a few plugins like e.g. Saurus 2 and Electra 2.1 seem to work in Pro Tools 11 this way it still seems to be far from the option to run all kinds of VST2 plugins in Pro Tools.

Thanks for the info Ingo. I'll inform the customers that Electra 2.1 now also works in protools with the adapter.

I just noticed there is a big update of Icarus but I can't se any AAX Pro Tools compability.
I wonder if this someday will come?

Hello Chris,

we had contacted Avid about the Protools SDK. The licence conditions and the contract they have sent to us were not fair for us at all. Furthermore we should pay €5000 for the sourcecode of a VST to AAX wrapper, which is not economic for us.
That's why we can't do native support for AAX.

Sorry
