Title: Electra2 feature requests
Post by: Markus Krause on June 25, 2014, 09:00:52 AM
This is the right place to post feature requests for Electra2.
We will and evaluate every single request. Some of the requests will be implemented in free updates. Please keep in mind that there are also techncial restrictions and we can not fullfill everyone's needs.

Thank you for your engagement,
The Tone2 Team

I'd like to see a Granular synthesis feature. More wonderful waveforms too. Everything is amazing already. Maybe new filters now and the maybe a cascade phaser filter... :)

A cascade phaser filter is available:
Click on the filter type and select Phaser. With 'Reso' you can control the number of stages.

Furthermore there are 2 new Phasers as effects available:
Phaser FB and Phaser Stereo. With 'Stages' you can control the number of stages.

Hi.

I hope you guys are not shocked with my long feature request list. I have used Electra(X) quite a bit and I have thought a lot of how I would like to see it improved. It's probably my favorite synths of all time afterall ;) And please forgive me if some of these already exist, it wouldn't be the first time for me to be ignorant.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- 3 additional matrix pages more for 15 additional modulation slots (for a total of 25slots). I often run out of the slots before I have even set up the velocity for the patches and there is no room to setup any other controllers like modwheel etc. This alone would improve the synth big time by giving more expression and freedom for sound design when it comes to single synth layers. Electra is a complicated synth and it deserves even a better mod matrix. There is room for these in the GUI. This would really expand what could be done with single layers.

- One additional LFO... I really like crazy modulated patches and I have found myself missing fourth LFO a lot. There is room for it on the GUI.

- Zoom function for imported samples. It would make setting the start/end/loop points so much easier if it was possible to zoom in and out. I have made plenty of new sounds lately and I found it a bit frustrating to find the correct spots with some less than perfectly edited samples I have imported into Electra.

- Additional higher oversampling quality option. I think this would be useful with the patches that have more extreme modulation and distortion going on.

- Mousewheel support with locking to wide values (eg modwheel 0, 5, 10 insted 1,2,3 etc)

- Doubleclicking a parameter to reset it to default position. I know you can do it if you press CTRL + mouse button but it would be so cool to have one hand on the musical keyboard and one hand on the mouse while doing this. I so long to be set free from the computer keyboard when making patches and this would enable it.

- Oscillators as source for the mod matrix would open a whole world of new sounds to us.

- Static tempo synced LFO lfo rates as mod sources (like the ones that are there already: sine 4hz etc). Same thing for the static decay settings in the mod matrix.

- Different modes for the portamento (what I mean is different shapes of doing the slides).

- Ability to import user wavetables (.wt).. many people would go nuts for this.

- Effect parameters available as destinations in the mod matrix. I don't want to compare Electra with other synths but I just have to say that I have one synth that has this feature (Spire), and I've had a blast doing my own soundbank for it because of this feature.

- Micropresets/templates for the envelopes (and why not for some other parts too). EG: bass, pad etc. This would give a lot of variation when trying out the included patches.

- Ability to lock certain areas (osc, env, filter, modmatrix, fx mix etc) when changing patches.

- Patch generator for those moments when you need something to spark your imagination with new sounds. The one in the Gadiator2 is so good, I have used it to make so really crazy FX patches I wouldn't have never thought otherwise.
- Velocity switches for the oscillators, just like there is for the synth layer. I have missed this one so bad and it's sometimes frustrating to spend the modwheel slots to achieve the same thing.

- Microtuning (.tun) support. Ok, I wouldn't ever use this one, but this is for the people who don't buy synths without support for other than the standard tuning.

- Drift knob for the oscillators just to make things a bit more organic if necessary.

- Show note together with hz in the main display when tweaking the filter.

- Tempo sync for the different envelope parts (attack, decay, rel).

- Tempo sync for all the included mod FX.

- More factory wavetables. Something based on the real instrument recordings could makesome really interesting and organic results.

- Option to use the old theme. I really miss the colors. Pretty Please *sob* :,(

- Precise version number on the GUI.
- Midi learn

- Main display could show a AT, PB, MW, VEL text if the patch is using aftertouch, pitchbend, modwheel or velocity. CRX4 has it and I find it very useful.
- Real unison with spread and detune knobs

- Autotrim start/endpoints for samples for the sample editor with different threshold settings

- Predelay tempo syncs for the reverbs that have tempo sync.

Thank you for listening :)

Wow, that's a really big of improvements. I am glad to see some of my FR's already there. I can't believe I have missed the MIDI learn. Somehow I totally forgot that EX already has the global analog drift setting too.

I have a few more requests.

New destinations to mod matrix:
-Endpoint 1
-Endpoint 2
-Endpoint 3

Modulating the start and end points of samples could provide some very interesting results (like scanning the sample with modwheel for example) ;)

Hi filter303,

this could indeed provide some interesting results. However it will also result in a lot of crackles.

Modulating the start point of a sample is already possible. You can find it as Start1, Start2, Start3 in the mod matrix destination. Especially in combination with the arp you can create interesting sounds. Several patches in the Vocal and Vocoder section use this setup.

I will check out if a more advanced sample scanning is possible for a future update.

Hi there,

I bought Electra 2 today and I am totally fascinated. A few feature request I would still  ;D

Wavesequencing, Vector Synthesis and envelopes with eight levels would not be bad. VST3 and multi-core support, I would also very much welcome.

Multicore support is already in. Every single instance of Electra2 runs on up to 3 cores.

Thanks for the reply, Markus.  :)

I forgot something, MIDI Out for the arpeggiator would also be cool.

Hi,

I would find it very very helpfull to have the ability to save and load Arpeggiator-Patterns.
With this function it would be easy to use a certain Arpeggio in different Synth-Layers and Patches.

Thanks !

Hello

Electra2 is my first Tone2 synth and I have been impressed with both the instrument and the service.

Couple of suggestions....(the synth almost has everything!)

1) Electra2 is begging for a vector/joystick mix option between the 4 synths (multilayers) so that this can be played with a joystick (SY22 - Wavestation  ;)) or animated - its almost as if Electra2 was 'born' to do this  :)

2) Install to a folder! (it put a lot of loose files in to my tidy VSTi Folder  ???)

3) Have a deal on the soundpacks 'without' including Electra2 (for people like me who bought from JJR etc and didn't see this!) also a good idea to have small groups (say packs of 4 that work together - Camel Audio are good at discounting this way) or keep it simple- buy 1, get one free :-) Lots of new Electra2 may be looking to get in to the packs....

A feature requests:

1 new synth section: Global matrix.
- This has dynamically allocated tabs each with dynamically allocated different slots.
- Each has the following parameters.
 * Source
 * Curve type
 * Destination
 * Modulate offset source 1 (adds / subtracts from the values)
 * Modulate offset source 2 (adds / subtracts from the values)
 * Modulate offset source 3 (adds / subtracts from the values)

Hi everybody,

Electra2 is a multisynth with 4 different synths, isn't it, but with only a stereo output.
I wish it was with 4 different outputs, mono or stereo.
It would be very cool.
Thank you for this nice and powerful synth.
Pol
Title: Re: Electra2 feature requests
Post by: Markus Krause on October 16, 2014, 09:52:09 AM
Hello Pol,

There is are technical reasons, why 4 different stereo outputs would not work very well:
The master effect is applied to all 4 synthesizers. We would have to drop the processing of this one.
Furthermore not all hosts support more than stereo output and would crash.
In many other hosts you quickly loose overview because of the enourmous amount of mixer strips.

But there is a workaround:
Load Electra2 twice. Load the same patch to both. Then switch of second layer on the first instance and the first one on the second instance. Now you go two pairs of stereo outputs that can be routed individually.

Best Regards,
Markus

hi Markus,
electra2 is a beast, my favorite vsti, i m waiting for the new update :)
some request:
import wt or share a little software for convert in.va,
in sample mode, a automatic loop 2048 samples, or a multiple, with or without crossfade,
the ability to move with the mouse wheel the values in the matrix( in fl studio 11.1, you can scroll the dest, source but not the value)
a shortcut like alt, for make some offset in multimode layers edit link
a new school portamento mode like in nemesis, and why not, some duck for fx ::)
thanks a lot tone2 for making such great instrument!
( when do you make a virtual modular?)

Hello kokette,

thank you for the nice words and your suggestions. Some of them have been implemented in Electra v2.1.

We possibly will extend the wavetable capabilities in future versions.
I am also a fan of the modern portamento from Nemesis, since it has a lot more punch than traditional modes. So far i wasn't sure if people do like it or not. But now it's a hot canditate to be part of Electra in the future.
There are currently no plans for a modular synth.

Hi Markus!

Lovin Electra2 right now.  As others have suggested more mod-matrix slots could be useful.

My main request though is a new delay. None of the current delay modes sound right to me.

I'd really like something as close to the Virus TI Tape delay as possible.  It's wide and has excellent filtering and saturation.

NI Replika also has a wide mode that sounds great, it has good filters and saturation too.

Thanks!

Sami

Hello Sami,

the tape delay could be a nice roundup for the effects section. Please send me some recodings from the sound that you expect. Use a dry sawtooth as sound source together with the effect.

Cheers!

https://soundcloud.com/aiyn-zahev/delay-types-first-is-replika-second-is-ubermod/s-occIv

Let me know if you can see this file, you can also download it.

First Delay is NI Replika, which you can demo for free, the second is from Ubermod.

Sorry, I don't have my Virus TI anymore so I can't sure you pure demos of it's delay. But it's kind of a mix between these two.

The NI one is good for utility,  very wide, good filters and saturation options.  The Ubermod is very detailed, the distortion etc is excellent, and this particular preset has a small diffusion process which is why it sounds so wide and lush.

Hello AiynZahev,

thanks for the info. From the technical side it's possible to add additional effects to Electra2. The semi-modular stucture of the synth allows this. I will do some expemiments and if the results are good i will add such an effect to Electra2.2. This update will be for free for all Electra2 customers.

Excellent.  I am guessing the key to a wide delay is something like the HAAS effect, some slight ms delay between the sides.

Another FR - The ability to do FM while the modulator is muted. I can't do any FM with OSC2 for example without OSC2 being in the audio-path somewhere.

This is already possible. Simply turn down the volume of the modulator (OSC1) to 0.

Ah! I was thinking it was the other way around, great.  Thanks.

I was also thinking, for the delay, all I would want is a highpass filter on the standard delay.  Just to remove the low end.

A tape style delay would still be great though.

FR: There is a little space next to the INIT button on top of the settings panel.

I think there should be a button here called "multi" which will be the multi-edit mode and it should be lit when enabled

Reason: I've many times had multi-edit enabled without realizing it and screwed up a patch.  Also, I use it so much it would be better to have it on the front panel than in a dropdown menu.

Thanks!

Another FR: Save over preset.

Instead of having to click save, have the box open and type in the same name to overwrite a preset, I'd much rather have a "save over preset" or "overwrite" with an "are you sure" dialog box.  I make lots of little edits to patches and save over them, so this would speed things up a lot for me!

Hi Markus!

Electra2 is by far one of the coolest and most comprehensive synths I've used. Four years ago I bought ElectraX and it's been my go to synth ever since. I absolutely love the new features of version 2.1. But please for a future update use the same PW modulation that's available in ElectraX and version 2.0. Modern computers should be able to run as many instances as one would need even though the old algorithm is used. I'm on a late 2009 iMac and was able to run enough instances to produce very complex songs still with version 2.0. Using the PW crossblend setting isn't making it morph as smoothly as I would like it to and there are too many good features in version 2.1 for me to simply stay with 2.0. Also please please please add more slots to the mod matrix!  :)
This synth is simply too complex to only have 10 mod slots. With at least five more slots and the old PW sound I could stick to Electra2 forever  ;D Take these suggestions as compliments since I believe that they would make one of the sickest synths of the market the number 1 synth for all serious sound designers!

I use arpeggiator quite often, sometimes duplicating it across multiple layers with subtle differences. Hence my request - would it be possible to extend the copy-paste functionality so that one can simply copy the complete arp parameters into another layer, leaving other layer settings untouched ?
Currently you can do so only for entire patch or an oscillator.

thanks

Hello MorpherX,

There is already support for subfolders within the ElectraX_sounds directory. Most of them are named with categories, but you can also choose other names. You can create own directories within ElectraX_sounds and put your fxp files here. Example:
...\ElectraX_sounds\MyGreatSounds\MyPatch1.fxp

After creating a new category/subfolder restart ElectraX to make it recognize it.

Hi Markus,

without these folders it would'nt be possible to have a library.
What I mean is having subfolders in the ElectraX_sounds library.
For example:
...ElectraX_sounds\Sofisticated Soundscapes\Caribian dreams\Waver.fxp

If you want you could also say sub-subfolder.

Within a "normal" browser you can have as many subfolders you want.
Especially in these Electra_sounds-folders you can only have restricted number of entries, therefore sub-(sub)folders would be very usefull.

Best regards

Hello Alex,

some older hosts can crash with the longer names for the parameters. That's why we have to stick stictly to the VST specification which is limited to 8 characters. We developers are not happy about this stupid limitation, but is technically necessary to maintain compatibility.

If you use a Steinberg host on PC you can use a .vstxml file to get long parameter names or to customize them. If there is demand i can provide such a file for download.

Hello Markus,
i am use Reaper daw, this compatible with screenreaders, and have special accessibility plugin Osara
https://github.com/jcsteh/osara#start-of-content
Many daw's have pictures instead text labels, and this creates problems for navigate to tracks and set needed parameters...
Reaper can not use vst.xml now, i try write about this to Reaper developers.

Do you can create text popup tooltips for buttons and rotary knops and thears values, when mouse cursor established on them?
Such tips i saw in Air plugins.
These tooltips can withdraw in small LCD-style screen.
Now all parameters draw as image and screenreader not read this.

PS: How me become betatesters for Electra2?
Title: Re: Electra2 feature requests
Post by: Markus Krause on September 08, 2016, 05:52:57 PM
Hello Alex,

there are already graphical tooltips below the patch selector.
I recently experiemented with popups, but dropped it. The popups are not responsive enough to display fast parameter changes like 'Cutoff = 4kHz' when the knobs are moved. They also don't work very well with our cross-platform code.
I am aware that we can't do right for anyone. Sorry about this.

I'd recommend that you ask the reaper developers to support vstxml. Also many other users would benefit from this.

There are currently no closed betas planded. There might be an open beta for Icarus 1.1.

Can you update the ARP to be more inline with Icarus and nemesis? Would be nice to do things such as UP/DOWN 3 octaves.

Maybe, the ARP/SEQ sections in all synths should be made larger. It is so finicky. Way too small.

Hello Markus,
do you can get to me vst.xml for ElectraX 2.1?
Thanks for advance.

https://www.tone2.com/publictemp/ElectraX.vstxml
Hello Markus,
thanks, the values of the parameters editable for vstxml?
For example in parameter "synthesis"?
In electrax.vstxml i see only parameter names.

You can edit the file with a text editor like notepad and then overwrite the file. The names are the ones which are shown for the parameters in the host, instead of the default ones.

(I did send this via- message also, so if you already read it sorry about the repeat.)

I love Electra2 and have been using it and Saurus for a while. It would really be helpful in a future update for Electra2 to read midi program change numbers rather than the current set up which is only move up 1 program.

Thanks, Vic

Sure!

These features might be in with the next update:

- drag & drop modulation
- new knobs
- support for more wav file formats
- higher sound quality if you run it in 44 Khz samplerate

Our sounddesigners are also working on new soundsets. It might be one for orchestral/cinematic and one for trap.

hello,

Perhaps there is an option to make a section where you can control all 4 volume knobs at once to make tweaking more easy?
Is there an option to make knobs reset when you double click on them?

Kind regards

Hello Soarcy,

This feature is already included. You can edit multiple layers simuntaniously with copy->"Multilayer edit"

The Volume knob in the top middle of the GUI acts as a Master Volume. It affects all 4 layers.

You can reset knobs with Strg/Ctrl + left mouse button.

Best Regards,
Markus

Hello Markus,
It is possible, that layers started in series?
For example:
play one layer, after two or three layer, and initially.

Then alow use 4 arpegiators as 64 pattern sequencer and many possibilities for modulation and new cool sounds.

Hello Alex,

yes this is possible.

- Go to the Arpeggiator section
- Switch 'Off' to 'Chordgate'(to play a chord) or Up (play in upward order)
- Change all '8' to '.' (no Note is triggered), except in the 3rd slot
- On the 14th slot switch the '8' to 'E'

When you now hit a key the Arpeggiator will start playing. No notes are triggered. After 3 slots it will play the voice with a delay.

You can find a decription of the Arpeggiator commands on page 50 of the handbook. You can open the handbook by clicking on the HELP button.

Have a nice weekend,
Markus

Hello Markus!
Do you can create routing audio signal in layers?
For example layer 1 in layer 2, layer 2 in 3 and next...
It can be for new beautiful complex sounds.
Export custom waves.

This is my first post to the forum and I really like the Electra 2.  Here are some features I would like though.  The Browser is rather simple and it would benefit using features in Synthmaster 2.9 (KVR331) with the ability to add comments and show characteristic info for user presets.  These seem to be absent from the present browser.   There is no search option either.

It would be nice if directories could be remembered as well.  If I load a waveform into an oscillator and then want to save a patch I have to find the directory again (Using Windows 10 OS).  Then again to get a new waveform.

I also would like to be able to set the default preset, I don't need to be welcomed every time I open the synth.

I can't read every post so some of these my have be suggested previously, looking forward to the new 2.9.6 version.

This is possible with all Electra2 versions:

1) Create, Init or load a patch of your choice
2) Click FILE->'Save patch as...'
3) Go to the directory 'ArpMultiLayer'
4) Overwrite 0Welcome.fxp

Hi Markus,
I've been playing with the Electra 2.6 beta and it seems to work well.  However, I find the transgate to be a bit limited.  I tried to produce the lead sound in Sandstorm (by Darude) using the Transgate.   The speed of the transgate is either too slow or two fast so a variable speed would be good. Also a pulse count that would do a series of beats then stop and restart with a key press would also be good (with an off function).  The Arp can sort of do this but doesn't sound the same.

Hi Babble,

i built this patch for you. I sent it by email.

How to build a custom Trancegate in Electra:

In the STEP Lfo Section:

- Open the STEP Lfo and build your desired shape like -__-__-_-__-__-_
- Select a 'Soft' shape
- Set Tempo to '1 BPM'
- Optionally you can set the STEP Lfo to 'Song' sync instead of 'Trigger'. This way it behaves like a global and free running trancegate.

In the SETTINGS Section:

- Set Volume to 0

In the MATRIX Section:

- Select 'Step Lfo' as modulation source
- Select 'Volume' as modulation destination
- Set the send level to 100

Best Regards,
Markus

Hi Markus, I'm loving Electra2 2.6! The new filters sound really nice, especially. I'm still having the issue where the mousewheel does not work properly. I'm using Cubase 9.5.20 and Windows 10. Every other plugin I have does not have the issue with the jumping mousewheel values. For some reason, it will only change values when moving the mousewheel really quickly, and it will usually jump in large values. So, it's not really usable.

My feature request, though, is more mod matrix slots. There is space on the GUI for two more tabs... why not give us 20 slots? That would be amazing! I love making really complex patches with a single synth and lots of modulations and cross-modulations.

I also really like many of the new 2.6 sounds! It's great to hear some more sounds suitable for some more underground genres and not so much the same kind of trance & EDM sounds. A wide palette is great!!

Implement preset change on the patch browser via computer up/down keys would be great instead of using the mouse!

Hi Markus,

Electra2 v2.7 is really great !

My suggestions are for a Electra 3, which will hopefully come sooner or later !

-Loading a preset as Layer in a Layer-Slot via browser
-at least one more effect slot (so 2 per Layer and maybe 2 for all 4 layers)
-loading of real wavetables (with a lenght of 2024 samples per single cycle and a maximum of 256 single cycles
-more Modulation-Slot

-realtime timestreching and pitchshifting (modulation via keytrack positiv and negativ, or LFOs etc.)
an example for this is CronoX4 (but it is discontinued and no more developed and sold)

I have to second that! Electra can create very complex rhythm and soundscapes and being able to solo the layers would be a great help for editing!  8)

Requested by email:

Being able to see the star rating next to the patch name would be helpful in quickly loading go-to sounds.

Beeing able to see the master FX in compact mode

Is it possible to get a more streamlined UI to where we can actually layer reasonably , with a mixer of some sorts.

Also a browser that allows us to read our actual names, vs. them being to large to read. Seems like spacing can be much better.

thnx.

Is the resynthesis feature gone in Electra 2.9? When I choose Custom Wave in the Osc menu, there is no resynthesis anymore, but a menu of custom waves that I can select from. Where can I find the resynthesis feature now?

1) Select 'Custom Wave' as a synthesis method
2) Click 'Load Wave' and pick a wav file.
3) Electra now will resynthesize a single-cyle waveform
