Title: patch changing via automation
Post by: HeinerK on November 25, 2019, 01:25:45 PM
Dear folks,

would anyone explain how I could automate changing Icarus patches?

Right now I am using three instances of Icarus - one for each vocoder patch, but that's not very elegant I am afraid.

If the answer depends on the host - I am using Cubase 10 Pro.

Regards,
Heiner

Hello Heiner,

i will refer to Icarus2, but it should work in the same way in Icarus 1.6.
You can change the patches with the 'Midi program change message'.

http://midi.teragonaudio.com/tech/midispec/pgm.htm

However i do not recommend using this method  - no matter if you use hard- or software instruments. Doing a program change while playing back a track in real-time usually causes a cpu-spike when you use complex instruments. You might experience it as a short 'crackle' or 'dropout'.

Using several instances of the plugin is the right way to-go.

Best Regards,
Markus

Thanks, Markus, then I'll leave everything like it is - and go on exploring  ;)
