Icarus / Re: my sugestions for Icarus 3
« Last post by Deepbass on November 16, 2023, 08:46:27 AM »
I would love to see these 3 additions:

1. A second morph mode like Vital or Current have (applying a morph fx to the wavetable is too static). Both should be able to be modulated

2. Previewing the slider in the wavetable editor. It is so annoying to always have to apply it and if you don?t like the result you have to undo and try again. That workflow is so unintuitive in my opinion.

3. Please make the fx slots switchable like in Icarus 1.

...and a +1 for the Electra 2 Shape distortions/saturations mentioned by tatsyn  :)

I?m really looking forward to version 3!

Icarus / my sugestions for Icarus 3

Greetings and good morning.

My sugestions (not requests at this stage) for Icarus 3 if it's to be released.....
Not by personal order of importance, i'll add explanations:

-1    - MSEG's rate modulation (the feature i end up missing most times)
-1.1 - MSEG's other parameters modulation [start-loop-rise-delay] (wish it was possible but not as often as MSEG rate while sound designing)
- 2   - Electra 2 Shape distortions/saturations added to Icarus 3 (an extra that's probabaly a high dose of work), can be usefull but there's specialized external saturation- distortion vst's/plugins.
- 3   - More Matrix modulation slots (miss it less than MSEG's rate modulation too but more then other suggestions. As PC's will get more powerfull it could be usefull at long term as an Icarus 3 enhancement..)
- 4   - Glitch section modulation - (Miss especially and mostly the Gltch mix knob modulation so that it can be turned On/Off/anywhere in between with MSEG's, step LFO or Mod-Pitch wheels p.ex:) can also be done with speciallized external Plugins but would be nice to be able to do it within Icarus as a soud design tool.

Hope you have an excelent day!

side note - Some requests people are making like filter keyfollow modulation are usefull but are already possible doing it in the Matrix, with even more options as Icarus has multiple key modulators.

Here's a couple of previews of the other Skin - "Time Gate"

This one implied quite a bit of extra work....

Good morning, i have a question about Electra2.
Is it still skinable? the Electra2Skin1-4.dat system seems to no longer work....
i tried a few variations like Electra2SkinMedium1.dat to no avail, guess i should just had asked :lamp: ::)

Hi, i have a couple of skins for Icarus

It's only small size since i still use my faithfull Full HD Screen

one is a [worn out digital classic],..
... the other one a darker version but still needs some tweaks.

What is Impulse-Modeling-Synthesis (IMS)?

This innovative approach to sound generation goes far beyond traditional forms of synthesis. It offers a whole new world of sounds and enormous potential for producing creative modern music.
Many conventional synthesizers use a technique that is known as 'subtractive synthesis': An oscillator plays a looped waveform that is passed through a filter to shape the sound. In contrast, RayBlaster uses an entirely new approach to synthesis. It creates its distinctive sound with a convolution-based synthesis technique: Many short samples containing impulse responses are overlapped to create a complex sound. We named this innovative technique 'Impulse Modeling Synthesis' (IMS).
IMS can be considered a superset of granular synthesis. However, it does not suffer from its weaknesses like detuning, poor sound quality or many musically unusable sounds.

Sounds

RayBlaster's radically different approach to synthesis makes it possible to create unique signature sounds that are absolutely impossible with other synthesizers.
The pychoacoustic model of IMS resembles the way our human brain perceives sounds. As a result, these sounds seem enormously immersive or even completely pychedelic.
RayBlaster ships with an inspiring library of over 1100 presets created by the world's top sound designers. Many complex sounds such as arpeggios, vocals or drumloops automatically synchronize with the BPM-rate of your track.
For quick and easy access to a specific sound, we've carefully organized them into logical categories. A comfortable patch browser gives you instant access to a huge sound library with ready-to-use patches.

Modulation

Spice up your tracks with exciting movement! Do you want to use the LFO to wobble your sound? Simply drop it to a knob and you've got it. Modulation can be as simple or complex as you want. You can use drag&drop or the modulation matrix to connect dozens of sources to all important sound parameters. Modulate almost any parameter with audio-rate speed, from internal modulation sources like LFOs, punchy envelopes, step sequencers, and a wide variety of MIDI signals. We've also included midi-learn, so assigning CC's is as simple as a right-click.

Effects

RayBlaster comes with a huge variety of effects that were developed and fine-tuned to complement RayBlaster's Impulse-Modeling-Synthesis. 44 different stereo effects are included, all carefully crafted to offer the highest quality possible: We have included a large variety of Reverbs, Delays, Chorus, Ensemble, Phaser, Flanger, Rotary, Compressor, Amp-Sim, Equalizer, Surround-Encode, TranceGate, Resonator, Hypersaw and so on.

Waveforms, Samples & Resynthesis

In addition to importing filter characteristics into RayBlaster's oscillators, you can also import the waveform of any other synthesizer.  This gives you an unlimited number of possible waveshapes, all of which are capable of being morphed in real-time. You can re-synthesize short samples like a drumloop or a vocal phrase. RayBlaster also offers many possibilities to synchronize complex sounds to your track's BPM as well as providing the ability to manipulate the pitch, timing and the timbre of all your sounds in real-time.

System requirements:

PC: Windows 7 / 8 / 10 / 11 or Linux with WINE; Plugin formats: 64-bit VSTi, VST3, Standalone
Mac: macOS 10.12 or higher including macOS Sonoma; Plugin formats: VSTi, Audio Unit (AUi), VST3, Standalone, Universal Binary; Native support for M1 and M2 and Intel

Icarus / Re: General question about the Ranking.rnk file
« Last post by jonetsu on October 23, 2023, 09:22:32 PM »
Hello Markus,

Thanks for the reply.  I tend not to dislike sounds and tag them as such.  From experience it happened several times that a disliked sound becomes a good one a year or two later in a different context.  If I tag it negatively I could very well not hear it anymore, always ignoring it when browsing.  So in this way a sound, a patch that has no score is one that's still 'open' for any kind of project, which might be different from year to year.

OK then, I'll edit the ranking files with emacs and use a macro to replace the number 3 with a 0.

Cheers,

Al

« Last post by Markus Krause on October 23, 2023, 09:44:50 AM »
Hello jonetsu,

if you delete a .rnk file the ranking is reset for the category of the same name (=directory that contains the fxp files). A reset means an average ranking of 3 stars.

The whole idea behind the ranking system is this:
- The default ranking is always 3 stars. This is intended to be an 'average' ranking.
- If you dislike a sound you can set it to 1 star.
- If you love a sound you can use 5 stars.

You can change the number of stars with the patch browser.
You can also edit the .rnk files with a text editor like Windows notepad.

Best Regards,
Markus
