Icarus v1.1 public beta (closed)
« on: October 12, 2016, 01:31:41 PM »
The public beta for Icarus v1.1 is available. This huge update includes a reworked user interface, a large number of new features and many enhancements.

Download link PC:
(deprected)

Download link Mac:
(deprecated)

New features:

- Drag&Drop support: Drag LFO/ENV and drop it to a knob to create a matrix entry for modulation
- Right-click on a knob opens a menu where you can assign modulation sources
- Modualtion depth control on top left of a knob if a source is assigned
- Sectors on knobs show the modulation amount. Clipping is shown in red.
- Hovering the mouse over a knob shows the current parameter value and modulation source
- The buttons of OSCs, Filters, LFOs, ENVs, which are inactive are greyed out
- Responsive GUI with Tooltips
- New waveform display mode 'Hypersaw', which shows the detuning of the oscillators
- help->Show version info
- Mouse cursor changes on editing halftones in arp
- Right click on a knob->reset initializes to the default value
- Visual feedback if a button in the wavetable editor is pressed
- TRIG button for the LFO section
- New sync mode for LFOs 'Arp/Lfo soft trig' which retriggers monophonic LFOs after 1 second of silence
- New sync mode for LFOs 'Arp/Lfo classic trig', which allows to set free mode for every LFO individually
- SEMI knob for the OSC section
- New matrix target 'Filter Balance'. It's usefull to control the relationship of the filter volumes when two filters are routed in parallel.

Enhancements:

- Drawing custom shapes with the STEP Lfo is more comfortable
- Better workflow
- Enhanced performance of the knobs
- Parameters are more easy to adjust
- Patch rankings are only stored when the user clicks on the stars
- Display mode is now 'smart' and tries to auto-detect the right one
- Polished some graphics
- Reduced RAM requirement. More instances can be loaded in 32 bit.
- Many other small enhancements for the user interface
- Quick save is more smart
- Category is rotating for a more comfortable patch browsing
- Workaround for buggy hosts which submit duplicate noteOn commands. The Arp does not longer produce hanging note
- Legato is more easy to setup
- Drag&Drop of a wav sample to the OSC display can now create a new resynthesized patch
- LFOs are more smart

Changes:

- MONO in the LFO section has been replaced with TRIG
- On initializing a new patch the default mode is set to 'Arp/Lfo soft trig'
- OSC Punch and OSC Keyfollow button have been moved to SETUP

Fixes:

- Matrix source 'Filter Env' sometimes didn't work
- Removed a glitch from 'Alien Spaceship Mac.fxp'

Icarus v1.1 offers adding mod sources in two new ways:

1) Drag&drop :

- Select one of the 4 envelopes or LFOs
- Click and hold on ENV or LFO
- A line appears that while still holding teh mouse button could be dragged to the knob you like
- A green line means that using that ENV or LFO is OK for that parameter you currently hover. A red line mean it is not usable there.
- Release the mouse button and the ENV or LFO will be assigned to that knob (or release over an emty part of the GUI to abort).
- The new modulation is added to the mod matrix and you could adjust the mod amount there
- The mod amount/range is also displayed within the knobs, in a lighter color than the knob
- Right-click on a knob and click on "remove modulation" to remove it

2) Right-click menu:

- Right-click on a knob to choose a mod source from teh drop-down menus
- The new modulation is added to the mod matrix and you could adjust the mod amount there
- The mod amount/range is also displayed within the knobs, in a lighter color tahn the knob
- Right-click on a knob and click on "remove modulation" to remove it

Wow! Amazing set of new features and enhancements!
Need to dl this immediately!
Still waiting for a possibility to cross-modulate the oscillators with FM/PD etc ;)
But it seems like an amazing update as always!

Should we report any possible problems in this thread?

Apart from some minors issues the beta is working quite well.

Confirmed bugs:

- Quick save patch is broken
- On Mac 64 the number of stars of the first patch in the browser is set to 5

The bugs will of course still be fixed till the official v1.1 release.

-Arp:
move the half tone with the mouse wheel : up: +12/24 down -13/-26

-the modwheel automation doesn't work in reaper 5.22 x64
same with Vol, lfo rate( i didn't test all parameters)

-Wish for drag/drop mod:
i wish a drag/drop for the ModWheel source (perhaps a cross on a corner)
i find the popup :Sorry= this mod target is not available :not usefull(my POV)
a copy current osc to could copy the modulations too
if 2 sources are assign to the same target, it would be great to have the mod follow the UI focus source

- wish Wave drap/drop
drag and drop a wav file make a custom patch and Init the
current patch , it could be great to choose this in the setup or help file
importing a wav file create a template patch...
( the way it was working before was great,my 2 cents)

about the manual:
In the Icarus manual:
L  (loop-length) - If you set slot 6 to L the Arpeggiator will restart the loop sequence after 6
bars, instead of 16 bars.
E  (end) - If you set slot 6 to E the Arpeggiator will stop playing at slot 6
i don't see this option in the arp

cheers

I am noticing a possible minor bug. I have LFO1 modulating Wave1 of Osc1 with BPM off. While I adjust the LFO speed, the LFO speed seems to be very fast and unstable but eventually settles down when I stop modifying it.

I'm sorry I don't have time to fill out the bug report form now. I am running StudiOne3 on Win7, 64 bit.

Great update! I love the drag & drop modulation! The way drag & drop is visualized might need some work though. Would be nice if modulation of the Detune parameter was somehow visualized. Other than that, nice work!  ;)
