Skins in Electra2
« on: July 10, 2014, 09:18:57 AM »
Electra2 offers a skinable user interface.

PC: To load your own skin rename a .png file to

Electra2Skin1.dat
Electra2Skin2.dat
Electra2Skin3.dat
Electra2Skin4.dat

and place it in the dll directory. Every skin represents one layer. After a restart the default skin will be replaced with the png file.

I uploaded the old ElectraX skins so that you can make Electra2 look like the old one.

Hi Markus,

I would like to use the yellow-light skin on all 4 layers.
Where can I find it or could you upload it ?

Thanks !

I wouldn't mind having the old skins. They were easier on the eyes, even though the new ones look more fresh and clean. I obviously prefer more color!

The white markers on knobs, is it part of the knob or superimposed through the code? In some screen shots/videos I didn't see the white markers, hence curious. If I were to create a skin, should I leave the marker out.

The markers are not part of the skin.

The markers are not part of the skin.
Thanks Markus, that's what I thought. Now, I have to find a suitable design that goes with the white marker.

Thanks, Markus for offering to provide the older skins.

In the meantime, can you tell me where to put these png files  for Mac users?

I don't find these anywhere:
Electra2Skin1.dat
Electra2Skin2.dat
Electra2Skin3.dat
Electra2Skin4.dat

and I don't even know what "the dll directory" is. I guessed that "Show Package Contents" of the plugin would reveal these files, but they don't seem to be there.

Thanks

Hello gobo,

my post did refer to the PC version. On the mac it's a little more difficult, since you have to change the content of the package. It really do not receommend this, since you can easily destroy your installation.

I will take care of additional skins as soon as i find time for it. Currently Bastiaan is in hospital. That's why things are progressing slower than usual.

Best Regards,
Markus

Hello spktkpkt,

thank you for your engagement.

Unfortunately extracting skins or resources from executables hurts the license agreements of commercial software. That's why i will upload the original ones for you.
In general it's much more easy to grab skins from the Mac versions. Simply click on the component and show the package content. Then you should be able to see the png files.

Several knobs will be out of place or have wrong labels, so you have to rework the skins. The layer select buttons will not work anymore, because the highlight is rendered to the background.

I will take care of this after the release of UltraSpace, which has highest priority.

Best Regards,
Markus

I think maybe UltraSpace has been released.

Is there still a chance of getting the old Electra skin for Electra2 ?

PS: I hope Bastiaan is ok...

Hello,

I recently bougth the "Tone 2 Complete Bundle" with all presets, expansions, etc.
There were some skins included with some expansions for Saurus, Nemesis and Rayblaster but it is not clear to me how could I change the skins for Elektra 2.5.

I have tried to create a file named "ElectraXskin.txt" and put a number in it like for Gladiator but apparently it was not working and I do not know where to found these Electra2Skinxxx.dat files neither a the links I found in your forum were not working anymore. So how could I found these skins please ?
Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

By the way, is there a simple way (i.e. from the VST synth itself) to choose, change the skins for any Tone 2 synths in general or do I have to do it from outside the VST by renaming xx.dat files (which are overwritten when installing a new skin unles I did something wrong during the installation) or editing a .txt file please ? as I could not found much information related to skins in the PDF documentations

Thanks in advance for your answer(s)
Best regards, Eric
