We plan to add SSE2 support for future updates and products (PC version). The advantage could be a performace gain of up to 30%.
However we could run into problems with some ancient processors.
Are there any users who still use very old hardware which is not SSE2 compatible?
CPUs supporting SSE2:
AMD K8-based CPUs (Athlon 64, Sempron 64, Turion 64, etc)
AMD Phenom CPUs
Intel NetBurst-based CPUs (Pentium 4, Xeon, Celeron, Celeron D, etc)
Intel Pentium M and Celeron M
Intel Core-based CPUs (Core Duo, Core Solo, etc)
Intel Core 2-based CPUs (Core 2 Duo, Core 2 Quad, etc)
Intel Core i7
Intel Atom
Transmeta Efficeon
VIA C7
VIA Nano
The follwoing CPUs do not support SSE2:
AMD CPUs prior to Athlon 64, including all Socket A-based CPUs ("Athlon XP", some "Sempron" models before 2004, "Duron",...)
Intel CPUs prior to Pentium 4
VIA C3
Transmeta Crusoe
I'll have a look, sure my web laptop still has a single core, hella old, AMD CPU. I'll let you know later today.
Yup, the old clunker has a AMD Mobile Sempron (not 64) 3000+ , so should do the trick for testing. Knew it would come in handy one day! (mind, I still do sound design on it, forces you work out ways to get a particular sound in more resource conservative ways).
Here is detailed information about the old sempron models and which ones support sse2:

Here is a tool which detetcts your CPU type:

Ahh yes, duh. Should have thought of that. Used CPU-Z back in the days when I did HARDCORE overclocking
Anyway, turns out it DOES SSE2, so not old enough I'm afraid.

SSE2 has now been introduced by intel for more than 10 years. So far only one Tone2 user with an old AMD Sempron laptop is known who has no SSE2. However he still can use an older version of our software.
I can add a messagebox with a warning which appears if a user has a cpu without SSE2 support.
I think that nearly all Tone2 users prefer an improvement in performance to compatibility with very old computers.
All The Best,
Markus
